dana college ALUMNI and Friends ASSOCIATION

During a search for artifacts on the Dana campus, alumni discovered a trove of football, basketball and volleyball game films dating back to the 1960s! In addition, three unopened choir albums (vinyl LPs) plus a reel-to-reel tape were discovered. Thanks go to Angels Share, Inc. for allowing Dana alumni to keep these for our use.

A committee of Viking athletes explored the possibilities of what could be done with these films and audio recordings. Phil Tegler, Bryan Traylor, Sandra Jensen, Bob Coffey, Rod Christenson, Terry Jensen, and Ron Scholz approached the Dana College Foundation Board of Directors with a proposal to have the items digitized and made available to alumni online.

The Board agreed that these are treasured memories belonging to all alumni, and that it would support the proposal to make the films available to alumni. The Board proceeded to call it the Dana Digital History Project. We know of no other college or university that has done this, much less one like ours that closed years ago.

With over 400 films, records and other items to digitize, the project is expected to take almost a year to complete. Omaha TransVideo is providing digitization services and uploading the videos to a special YouTube channel. The films and other recordings will be divided into four batches and released periodically throughout 2024.

First Videos Debuting Now!
We are pleased to announce that the first release of videos is now ready and available to view! We selected seasons from every decade to get the broadest audience possible for this debut. Subsequent uploads will fill in the gaps, so watch social media, this website, and the newsletter for announcements of when those are available.

Please note that we do not have every game of every season available. We have only what we were able to find. Quality varies depending on the condition of the original media. Also, recordings past the early 2000s were not found.

Until the last films have been digitized, they will appear in the order they were uploaded to YouTube. At the completion of the project, they will be sorted by sport and year. Until then, you will need to scroll through to find games you are interested in viewing. Choir albums will be available in the second release, and will also be downloadable from this website.

How to View
There is NO CHARGE to view these videos. All you need is internet access. They are easy to view on your laptop or desktop computer, tablet device, even on your smartphone. Simply click on or touch the button on this page. You will be taken directly to our YouTube channel where you can scroll through and click on individual games. Or you can copy this link and put it with your list of “bookmarks” on your web browser to view whenever you like:
