Digital History Project Now Complete! |
As previously reported, a search for artifacts on the Dana campus nearly two years ago revealed a trove of football, basketball and volleyball game films dating back to the 1960s. In addition, three unopened choir albums (vinyl LPs) plus a reel-to-reel tape of Victor Borge’s benefit performance at Dana were discovered. A committee of Viking athletes explored the possibilities of what could be done with these films and audio recordings. Phil Tegler, Bryan Traylor, Sandra Jensen, Bob Coffey, Rod Christenson, Terry Jensen, and Ron Scholz approached the Dana College Foundation Board of Directors with a proposal to have the items digitized and made available to alumni online. The Board agreed, and supported the proposal. The project became known as the Dana Digital History Project. Thus far, we know of no other college or university that has done this, much less one that closed over a decade ago. With nearly 400 films, records and other items to digitize, the project was expected to take a year to complete, but has finished ahead of schedule! Omaha TransVideo provided digitization services and uploaded the videos to a special YouTube channel. All Videos and Recordings Available Now! Please note that we do not have every game of every season available. We have only what we were able to find and identify. Quality varies depending on the condition of the original media. Also, no recordings past the early 2000s were found. Choir albums and the Victor Borge performance are available for listening, and are downloadable from the alumni website. Note: the Victor Borge tape is believed to be the only surviving recording of the beloved Danish pianist and comedian’s performance at Dana nearly 50 years ago.
